I have written a large number of expert psychiatric medico-legal reports for the Criminal, Family and Civil Courts including immigration, Employment Tribunal, Forensic matters, fitness to plead, family work and personal injury cases. I am fluent in English & Arabic and am approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended in 2007) as having special expertise in the diagnosis of mental disorder. I have also written more than one thousand Mental Health Act medical recommendations.

I attended University of Mosul In Iraq where I gained a Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery M.B.Ch.B in 1994. In 1997, I moved permanently to the UK in order to pursue specialist training as a psychiatrist. I completed specialist training in psychiatry in London (St Mary’s higher educational training scheme). I became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrist (MRCPsych).
I am engaged in a programme of CPD of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I am up to date with my Professional Development Plan approved by my peers at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health.
I have a special interest in psychotherapeutic interventions especially Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I completed a master degree in CBT (London Metropolitan University) and currently practicing as private Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, in addition to my post as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS in London.

Work experience
Present Post (Started on the 1st of April 2009 , permanent post )
I am currently working as a full time substantive consultant psychiatrist in a NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a busy General adult psychiatry post covers a large catchment area (270,000 multi-ethnic population) with substantial social difficulties, providing crisis assessment and management in addition to home treatment.
The post provides an intensive experience in managing a wide range of Psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, Bipolar Affective Disorder, Depression, anxiety disorders, substance misuse, Deliberate Self harm and personality Disorders.

– I had a career break from July 1997 to July 1999, settling in the UK, moved from Iraq to live in the UK.

Following completion of specialist training I took up a consultant post in London within Central and North West London Foundation Trust. Working as Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Consultant in an inner London catchment area with a diverse ethnic population and dealing with a broad range of psychiatric presentations.
I am member of the Royal College of Psychiatrist International Advisory Committee through the Iraq Sub-Committee , currently leading Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training and service development in Iraq.
Research teaching and Management
I have experience of Teaching, Research and management; I am the Clinical lead and the chair of a number of service development groups in Brent, Outcome Measure Implementation group.
I have a number of publications in peer review journals. I have been involved in training senior psychiatrists in different countries outside the UK through the Royal College volunteers scheme to develop Mental Health services in Iraq and Lebanon.
I have special interest in treating victims of torture and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
My approach is patient-focused and collaborative, integrating both psychiatric and psychotherapeutic approaches.
